How many invitations should I order?

Posted in Uncategorized at 3:22 pm by The Invitation Destination

The first step in planning any event is a guest list! Remember that the number of guests doesn’t necessarily equal the number of invitations. For instance, you may be inviting both David and Stacy Jones as well as their daughter, Jenna. That will be 3 guests for your guest list but only 1 invitation is required (as long as Stacy is under 18 and they all live at the same address).

Keep in mind, though, that you must always order extra invitations.

  1. It is very easy to accidentally leave someone off your guest list – many times these are the people you would never think of having your event without.
  2. You will be surprised at the number of people who find out about your event and invite themselves. That may put you in a difficult situation: either let them know that it is a small event only for family, etc. or make sure you have their correct address so that you can send them one of the extra invites you ordered.
  3. You have a magnetic personality! You make friends quickly and don’t want to leave off that new friend from work just because you made your guest list 4 months ago!
  4. Mistakes. They happen. Someone (usually male) sets his coffee cup on the invitations and somehow that artistic brown circle just doesn’t go with your calla lily theme. Do you have pets or children? Enough said.
  5. The most compelling reason is usually a financial one, as it is on this list. If you must place a second order for invitations because you underestimated the number, you have to pay the $$Price$$. If you have ordered formal invitations with raised printing, the thermography is to blame for the high cost, and you will pay dearly for that whether it’s an order of 10 or 1000 and there are never re-order discounts for raised printing. Even if you are using casual invitations and/or flat printing, you run the risk of a back order, rush charges, etc.
